Volunteer Update! Gee, it’s hard to believe almost a month has past since arriving in Peru. It’s been such a wonderful experience so far. Teaching at the school has been delightful. This Friday we had “Friday Fun-day” where the kids had to make combinations of food words in English and then they could come up and taste the food combos they made. The neighborhood I work in is a shanty town, and as you know, only has water two hours a day. So having a yummy treat like this was really special and they practiced their English words very well!
On the note of water… besides helping pay school fees, bringing in and paying for a Community Teacher on Saturdays and buying books for the classrooms… it looks like with your donations we are going to build a WATER TANK. The kindergarten might not be happening soon, so I decided we should use the leftover money we have after paying for everything above to bring water to the school. This means the kids will have access to drinking water (which is amazing, because they normally don’t), a toilet (which is amazing, because I have to send them outside the door to go potty) and a sink to wash with (which is amazing, because it’s very dirty and dusty). Hopefully we can get it made within the next 3 weeks that I am here, if not they we will send us updated photos for me to post.
This is pretty awesome guys. Imagine that we provided all of the above, PLUS water for a school!? Imagine if your school didn’t have water? Bananas! Or as they say in Spanish: Plátanos!
